Village Planters

Lake Bluff is known for its charming small-town feel, and our club helps keep the charm coming! The village administration entrusts us with designing, ordering and planting nearly 50 concrete planters and urns downtown every season. We create the designs, place the orders and do all of the plantings, while Village Hall purchases the plant materials and maintains a weekly watering schedule. We also work with Lake Bluff Park District on the greening of the gazebo during the December holiday season, and we plant a tree with Park District preschoolers each Arbor Day. Our public-private partnerships are instrumental in keeping the village beautiful all year long. These projects are among our favorite activities; we have a lot of fun doing them!

Spring

It’s always fun to reconnect with people after the long winter hibernation. Lake Bluff Garden Club's spring planting event in the village's Central Business District is  just the place for this. As we’re filling the planters with daffodils, tulips, pansies, daisies, ferns and more, friends and newcomers often stop by for a visit.

Summer

Before spring's plants start to fade, Lake Bluff Garden Club members return to town to swap the plants out with flowers that thrive in hot Illinois summers. These planters are on display all season and are a highlight as residents frequent the Farmers Market, downtown block parties and Bluffinia concerts on the green.

Fall

As summer fades and kids head back to school, Lake Bluff Garden Club cools the planters with a fresh autumn look. Our plant roster changes each year, depending on  design concepts and plant availability. People continue to enjoy blooming plants as they frequent  restaurants, shops and Rib Fest.

Winter

Shorter days and colder temps signal us to start getting Lake Bluff into the holiday spirit. Lake Bluff Garden Club fills the planters with greens. We also decorate the gazebo tree, assisted by Park District preschoolers. And we work with the village to adorn the lamp posts with garland and bright red bows.
